Weird West is an Action RPG in a western setting where occult monsters and dark forces run wild. The player takes the role of 5 different main characters with unique backgrounds and ability trees as they unwind the mystery of the land.

22nd Century Toys worked on Weird West Definitive Edition for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game was made in Unreal Engine 4, and the port work involved console specific feature implementations in the original project's blueprints, assets, and C++ code, as well as cherry-picked Unreal source updates. Other areas of focus included various bug and visual fixes along with performance optimizations.

GRIS+

Mac/iOS/Apple TV release for Apple Arcade

GRIS+ is the Apple Arcade port of the MacOS and iOS version of GRIS, a platform/puzzle game with beautiful art, music, and presentation as the protaganist overcomes grief to restore color to their world.

GRIS was developed in Unity with an orginal mobile release in August 2019. My port work was for releasing on Mac, iOS, and Apple TV together under a new GRIS+ product for Apple's subscription gaming service, Apple Arcade. GRIS+ supports Game Center achievements and cross device cloud saves.

Disc Room

Xbox/Win10 Gamepass port in GameMaker Studio 2

Disc Room is a 2D Action Puzzle game where you take on the challenge of surviving various killer-buzzsaw-disc filled rooms to progess onward through dynamic objectives, unlocking abilities and narrative comics along the way. Similar to other games I'd worked on, Disc Room was first developed for PC release and later ported to console. My port work was bringing the title to Xbox and Windows 10 Gamepass.

The game was developed in Game Maker Studio 2, and targeting Xbox/Win10 required integrating the YoYo Games GDK Extension to make use of Xbox Live features such as Xbox achievements, leaderboards, and cross-platform save progress. While implementing Microsoft's Event-based Leaderboards with the GDK Extension, I was able to prove out a bug and contribute a pull request accepted by YoYo Games to fix their xboxone_fire_event function for updating leaderboard scores.

Minit

iOS and Android port in GameMaker Studio 2

Minit is a pixel art adventure game with a unique 60 second time looping mechanic. It saw release on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Switch before being ported to Android and iOS mobile devices. The PC release date was Apr 3, 2018, and the mobile version released in June 2019. This mobile port was the first game dev project in which I took on the lead programming role from start to finish.

Reworking the controls and UI for phone sized touch-screen was a large part of the porting effort. The virtual joystick was programmed from scratch for Game Maker Studio 2. Many menus and HUD elements required changes inside the existing code structure. Other work involved setting up the app for the Google and Apple back-ends and store fronts.

Overland

Overland is survival strategy game that came out in fall 2019 for Windows, Linux, macOS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and iOS. Along with targeting a long list of platforms for initial release, the game saw multiple updates with new content and features. 22nd Century Toys worked on the console releases and patches with a role in programming, build testing, and title management in the first party publishing pipelines for Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony.

My programming contributions included console specific shader bug fixes, file system save/load and caching, user account handling, and conforming various PC centric features and options for console compliance.

An ultra-violent side scrolling beat em up. Mother Russia Bleeds first came out on PC operating systems in September 2016 followed by a Playstation 4 release in December 2016. It later saw further port work for a Nintendo Switch version that released November 15, 2018.

My contributions were to the Switch release. I made console specific UI and controls updates, various sprite fixes, AI behavior tweaks, and performance related scene lighting changes among other things.

Puzzles, platforming, and exploration in a cute but dubious world. This was a treat of a game to work on and one of the first I contributed to professionally. The game's initial release was January 24, 2019 simultaneously for Linux, macOS, Nintendo Switch and Windows. It later came out on other consoles. 22nd Century Toys assisted in Nintendo Switch specific aspects of the game's release.

My Switch port work included programming for touch screen support for mini-games, console File System save/load, controller vibration and controller change detection for Switch applet notifications.
